Summary: host nation Sweden dominated with 13 medals

The 22nd European Youth Championship in Malmö is over. It was dominated by the Swedish team as the host nation collected 13 medals.
30 nations participated and the medals were shared among ten countries. Denmark, Sweden and Latvia were most successful among boys. The Swedish girls played very well throughout the whole tournament and took eight medals.
In her first international appearance, 17-year-old Elin Adolfsson from Sweden won medals in every event. She walked away with five medals: two gold, one silver and two bronze.
Among the boys, 16-year-old Latvian Arturs Levikins and Mik Stampe from Denmark each won four medals.

Mattias Jansson runs away with boys Masters title

Mattias Jansson from Sweden used games of 225 and 200 to defeat Arturs Levikins of Latvia in the Masters final.
It was the first gold medal for the Swedish boys team, and with this victory Mattias copied his father Raymond who won the EYC Masters title 25 years ago.
The bronze medals went to Carsten Hansen, Denmark, and Tony Ranta, Finland.
 
 
Carmen Handrickmann is Masters Champion

Carmen Handrickmann from the Netherlands was unstoppable in Masters event. In the final, the Dutch girl defeated Elin Adolfsson from Sweden 2-0.
Handrickmann won her first match by 2-1, then swept the remaining four matches and averaged 229,9 over eleven games. The bronze medals went to Laura Ellis of England and Sandra Matz from Germany.
 
 
All set for Masters quarterfinals

With the boys Masters step 2 completed, the stage is now set for quarterfinals both boys and girls.
Remaining in the boys division are three Swedish players, two from Finland and one player each from Denmark, Estonia and Latvia.

After two rounds of girls Masters, eight players remain for Sunday´s quarterfinals. There are three from Sweden, two from the Netherlands and one player each from England, Denmark and Germany.
 
 
Arturs Levikins put on a strike show

Arturs Levikins from Latvia won his first EYC gold medal as he put on a strike show in the singles semifinals and final. The Latvian defeated Mik Stampe from Denmark in an exciting championship match, 266-254.
Levikins had earlier shot out Finn Perttu Jussila in the semifinal, 279-174. In the two final games he had 20 strikes out of 23. Stampe defeated Johan Helldén of Sweden in his semifinal, 203-189.
 
 
Joline Persson Planefors strikes gold in singles

Joline Persson Planefors from Sweden set up a string of seven strikes from frame 3 to 9 for a 255 game to claim the gold medal in girls singles. She defeated Chantal Jacobs from Netherlands 255-203 in the final.
In the semifinals Persson Planefors had narrowly defeated team mate Elin Adolfsson 206-201 while Jacobs won against Russian Polina Kosyakova 183-164.
 
 
Sweden, Netherlands and Russia in single semifinals

Joline Persson Planefors from Sweden shot 1314 in the second and last squad of girls singles to claim the number 1 seed for the semifinals.
Joining her will be Chantal Jacobs from the Netherlands, Poliana Kosyakova of Russia and Swedish team mate Elin Adolfsson. In the semifinals Persson Planefors and Adolfsson will set up an all Swedish affair and Jacobs will play Kosyakova.
 
 
Elin Adolfsson secures gold medal in all event

Elin Adolfsson from Sweden won the gold medal in girls all event with a total of 3815, an average of 211,9. The silver medal went to Israel´s Liat Vizenfeld with 3790 and bronze to Sandra Andersson, Sweden, 3737.
 
 
Dutch girls on top of the leaderboard

Dutch girls Chantal Jacobs and Carmen Haandrikmann shot 1299 and 1266 respectively and are in first and third position after the first squad of singles.
Swede Elin Adolfsson sits in second place with 1279 and Diana Zavjalova of Latvia is fourth on 1263.
The second squad will be under way after lunch and the semifinals and finals of both boys and girls singles will be played later today.
